Citizens for Educational Freedom (CEF) is a non-profit corporation founded in 1959,
with headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. We are unique to the school choice movement
in that we are a grassroots organization fully funded by citizens and supporting
groups of every race, color, creed and political party.
Our purpose is to promote the primary rights of parents to freedom of choice, justice
and quality in education for all.
We support public policies which will allocate a fair share of educational tax dollars
for each child to take to the school their parents choose, while protecting parents
and schools from undue government regulation and control.
CEF has fought for parents' rights to choose where their public educational funds
are spent. Long opposed by teacher's unions, state bureaucrats, and local school
boards who struggle to maintain their monopoly control, CEF can at last claim many
victories, as state legislators and concerned citizens move ahead with voucher and
tax credit programs. But far too many parents still see their educational choices
limited to the local government-run school, and much remains to be done.
Educational Freedom means:
- Parental Choice of Accredited Schools
- Equal Treatment under the Law for all Families
- Fair Competition among Schools
- Improved Educational Quality
- Taxpayer Savings
- Religious Liberty
What is Educational Freedom?
Educational freedom means that YOU, the parent, regardless of income, will decide
where your child will attend school. Through school vouchers or other programs that
allow choice, all families will be treated equally, competition among schools will
be fair, and the quality of education will improve.
