Welcome Citizens for Educational Freedom (CEF) is a non-profit corporation founded in 1959, with headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. It is the nation’s first school choice organization. Our purpose is to promote the primary rights of parents to freedom of choice, justice and quality in education for all. We are unique to the school choice movement in that we are a grassroots organization fully funded by citizens and supporting groups of every race, color, creed and political party. We support public policies which will allocate a fair share of educational tax dollars for each child to take to the school their parents choose, while protecting parents and schools from undue government regulation and control. CEF has fought for parents' rights to choose where their public education tax funds are spent. Long opposed by teacher's unions, state bureaucrats, and local public school boards who struggle to maintain their monopoly control, CEF can claim many victories, as state legislators and concerned citizens move ahead with voucher and tax credit programs. But far too many parents still see their educational choices limited to the local government-run school, and much remains to be done. Educational Freedom means:
What is Educational Freedom?Educational freedom means that YOU, the parent, regardless of income, will decide where your child will attend school. Through school vouchers or other programs that allow choice, all families will be treated equally, competition among schools will be fair, and the quality of education will improve.
